Gender selection is becoming an extremely hot topic lately!

Although there is nothing sure about that issue, some studies have shown some correlation between diet and the gender of the babies.

The report, from researchers at “Oxford and the University of Exeter” in England, confirmed the first evidence that a child’s sex is associated with a mother’s diet.

Although sex is genetically determined by whether sperm from the father supplies an X or Y chromosome, it appears that a mother’s body can also favor the development of a male or female embryo.

The reason is still misunderstood. But one thing is sure. The high level of glucose encourage the development of male embryo.

So women who skip meals or who have a poor diet, before and during conception, like skipping breakfast (known to depress glucose levels), are more likely to have girls.

In a study  published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, Those who ate breakfast cereals and potassium-rich foods, and consumed more total calories daily delivered more boys compared to those who skipped breakfast and ate fewer total calories.

Glucose levels may also fluctuate in women who are dieting and trying to lose weight prior to pregnancy.

Also, moms whose diet is high in potassium and sodium including vegetables, cereals, bananas, fish and meat may favor the conception of a baby boy (meat raises blood sugar for a sustained period of time).

On the other hand, A diet high in calcium and magnesium including milk, beans,  cheese, nuts and sweets like chocolate  may favor a baby girl.

Sugar-based snacks raise blood sugar very high, but for a short amount of time, followed by a drop in blood glucose.

The pH of the women’s tract is also very important. A more acidic environment favors girls .

On the other hand, a more alkaline environment favors boys.

Some alkaline foods include: potatoes, spinach, bananas, watermelon, figs and orange juice.

So if you want to get a baby girl, Make sure your diet is high in acidity without causing you any stomach problems.

Acidic foods include: plums, prunes, cranberries, kiwis, grapefruits, pineapples, lemon, yogurt, cheeses, sour cream, beans and corn.

There has been much debate over the years about whether it is possible to increase the chances of having a baby boy or girl by changing the eating habits. Diet plays a minimum role in that.

Other factors can be more helpful regarding this suject, so ask your gynecologist.

Don’t forget,  before you decide to start skipping meals in order to get a baby girl, you need to keep in mind that not eating a healthful diet can prevent you from conceiving at all.

That’s why eating a varied and healthy diet is the best approach to have a healthy baby, whether it’s a boy or a girl! 🙂
