Easter is right around the corner!
Western Christianity and Eastern Orthodox Christianity date of Lent continues for almost 50 days.
Fasting differs from one to another!
Some people fast on something they like, others fast from 12 am to 12 pm, while others fast on both of them!
Mainly Committed Christians refrain from all dairy products, meat, fish, alcohol and a few other prescribed food items for the entire period. With the exception of a few days on which fish is allowed in one’s diet.
Although this diet is totally healthy, it can be so hard and may lack some important vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamins B12, B6, Calcium, Vitamin D, Zinc, Magnesium.
The fasting before Easter makes your body weak and in a need of vitamins and minerals. You could revitalize your body with a diet that consists of greens and veggies like, rocca radishes, tomatoes, carrots, red peppers and cucumbers. They have a lot of vitamins and minerals.
– Milk can be substituted by Soya milk which comes from the Soy beans!
Red meat can also be substituted by soya in cooking!
Always try to take cereals that are fortified with Vitamin D and iron, to compensate for these 2 important minerals.
During fasting, raw nuts, seeds and legumes should be introduced in our diet to supplement the protein which our body is deprived of during this period.
– Whole grains and fresh fruits which are rich in fiber should not be missed in order to prevent consitipation.
In order to have a good intake of iron, sunflower seeds, lentils, green leaves and beans should be increased in your diet.
And don’t forget to accompany the consumption of iron rich foods with Vitamin C to get a higher iron absorption.
– Natural Honey and Jam can be good alternatives to sweets and candies
For people who are consuming seafood, omega-3 and omega-6 intake is a not a problem.
But for people who are not, omega-3 supplements or fish oil pills should be taken. Nuts and seeds should also be increased!
When fresh fruits and vegetables juices, vegetable broths and herbal teas are used, electrolytes are maintained!
And don’t forget to drink 8 glasses of distilled water daily coz many diseases respond to adequate hydration by flushing out disease- provoking toxins.
Caffeine and alcoholic beverages will dehydrate, so for every glass of these beverages you drink, you need to add an extra glass of water…
N.B: People with medical conditions should consult their doctor before fasting
Early Happy Easter Everyone!
